Originally written and recorded by Texas blues singer Curtis Jones. I heard this on a British blues compilation back in the 60s.. a nice version with just Curtis on vocals and a rolling piano. Produced, I assume by Mike Vernon? I don't know, but I always liked the song. Here's my version, just chugging along.
The guitar went down first take on a really cold day, before I'd warmed up the studio - the Epiphone "Dot" straight through my 1963 Watkins 6 watt amp, picked up by the snare drum mike. The interesting chord at the end was my frozen fingers landing on the wrong fret - I kept it in because I liked it. I'm singing really low on this because I realised I'd recorded the guitar in the wrong key for my voice, but there was no way I was going to do the guitar again.
The pic is from the 1930s film "Dixiana". It starred Bibi Daniels, though I'm not sure that's her in the picture. Anyway it seemed to suit. It's a casino scene - I think the guy's looking looking down at the lady's hand of cards and saying.. "hmm, you got good business". Anyway I hope you enjoy the track.
