Mick writes:

I first heard "Pink Champagne" on an album by Georgie Fame - still a great version. I always assumed it was a Mose Allison number - turns out to be from the late forties R&B bandleader Joe Liggins. What do I know?

It happened that I was reading a book about Sam Phillips, the Sun Records man (huge book - useful to stand on if you can't reach a shelf). So I got the idea to record "Pink Champagne" something in the style of Jackie Brentston's "Rocket 88" - with that driving distorted guitar line. At the time they got the distorted sound because they dropped the amp while loading it into a car and bust the speaker.. I thought that was a bit extreme so applied some electronic distortion. We have all the facilities here at Fabulous Rockfold Studio.

Anyway, here it is - perfect for a New Year's Eve release. The illustration is from the original printing of the book "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" - kinda cool. I hope you enjoy the music and here's to a rockin' 2022.
