Six more tracks from my 2020 album 'Relentless Boogie' freshly remastered in 2024. The whole remastered album will be released before the end of the year.
Nothin' in Ramblin'
Lizzie Douglas (Memphis Minnie) wrote and recorded this classic. It was recently recorded by an all star line-up including Bonnie Raitt and Keb Mo, which prompted me to go back and listen to my own effort.
Their's is beautifully played and recorded, of course, but I actually prefer mine in a way, as I've stuck to Lizzie's melody while updating the lyrics, and with a little updated mastering it scrubbed up pretty well.
Hi Heel Sneakers
Robert Winterbotham (Tommy Tucker)'s R&B classic. I like this - it thunders along - takes no prisoners. And I love that lyric - 'got my Old Crow licor - got my paycheck in my hand'.
Little By Little
Probably my favourite track from the whole album - Mel London's blues standard recorded by Junior Wells and many others. Stomps along.
Black Crow Fly
An MC song dedicated to the huge crow (s) that like to think they own our garden. Slide solos on my old Rosetti with the De Armond pickup - has an amazing tone - I should use it more.
Diamond Ring
Yes, it's 'Good Morning LIttle Schoolgirl' but I didn't want to sing the pervy sounding lyric, so took it back to as close as I could to the John Lee Williamson original. Kind of a sad lyric somehow..'I was messed up anyhow'.
Who Do you Love
And Bo's classic.. why not. Once again the Rosetti is rocking out on the slide.
I think the remasters were worth doing .. more news on the whole album to follow.
