Night Time is the Right Time

I first heard this song on an album by Graham Bond in the 60s.. turns out it was written by Nappy Brown. Great song but rubbish lyrics, apart from the catchy title.

I've done what I can with them and given the song a traditional British blues rock treatment.

To be fair to Nappy, he had to share the songwriting credits with his producer and his manager, who was an old style music biz gangster, so I don't suppose a lot of time was given to the lyrics. And in fact the original song goes back to Roosevelt Sykes in the 30s.

But as I say, I first heard it on an album by the British band, The Graham Bond Organisation - one of the very earliest UK bands to be playing blues and R&B - contemporaries of Georgie Fame and Alexis Korner. The band included Cream to be members Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, and Graham was a great Hammond player, famous for his raucous version of 'Wade in the Water'.

When I left school I worked at Advision Studio in London, and Graham Bond and the sax player Art Themen came in for a session. Graham forget to pick up his umbrella after the session so I fetched it for him. Fame at last. Later, my first professional gig was opening for the Graham Bond Organisation at Warwick University. He was great.
