The first single release from the new album 'The Blues, Man, Rides Again!'.
Well I blame my nephew Jack. We were at a family Christmas party, everyone was asked to suggest a favourite track to pick for a playlist.. I chose Elmore James' 'Look On Yonders Wall'. (It mixed a little incongruously with the Abba etc).
Jack asked me what guitar Elmore used. I had no idea, so after some research I learned that it was a Kay acoustic with a De Armond Rhythm Chief 1000 pickup. OK, I'll cut the story short.. otherwise we'll be here all day.
Suffice to say that I now have said pickup, (not Elmore's actual pickup - same type, a 1948 design) mounted on my 1930s Harmony archtop, and I love the result - especially for slide. And having recently read an interview with Elmore's cousin Homesick James, I thought I'd try Elmore's exact tuning in D.
So here it is, and although I don't normally approve of trying to sound like the blues greats, I really do like the effect. Played through a Bugera valve amp I think it sounds quite sweet. I hope you enjoy the track.
