Mick writes:
So in 1989 I'd released my American album 'West Coast Connection' and was ready to continue with my next studio album from the UK. The obvious place to go was Elephant Studio, and that was my intention.
However I had recently done some work with Mike Vernon, a top producer, well known for his work on the almost legendary Clapton / Mayall 'Beano' album. I'd found Mike good to work with, and the idea of going ahead with a full album was irresistable.
So during a particularly mild January we booked a couple of weeks at a rehearsal studio in South London called 'Silos', and Mike moved in his mobile recording set-up. The room was perfect for recording as it had a separate room with a window for the control room.
There was no piano so Kerry used his stage keyboard - the latest state of the art piano simulator of the time. I used a Marshall 50, though I can't remember the exact set-up - somewhat muffled to avoid spill. I also borrowed a Les Paul for the session from my friend Dave Edwards.
I later went to Mike's home in Walton-on-Thames to mix the album over five days. The album was popular and we toured a lot in Europe around it - it was the foundation of most of our early work in Germany and Central Europe.
The tracks are available online as part of my 'Classic Cuts' compilation.
