Mick writes:
I first met Bill in 1968. Over a hamburger in a Wimpy Bar in Wardour Street, Soho, we formed a band called Killing Floor. Killing Floor, with Lou Martin, Stuart McDonald and Bazz Smith, recorded two albums and did a whole load of gigs and touring, including backing Freddie King on two UK tours, and playing dates with Howlin' Wolf, Otis Spann and Arthur Crudup.
Killing Floor reformed in 2012 and recorded two more albums, also playing a series of festival dates across Europe. And as Bill was one of my oldest friends, we kept in touch and kept making music together.
The Clarke Thorndycraft EP 'Blues Consultants' was released in 2019 and featured four favourite covers, including the Stones' 'Jumpin' Jack Flash'. An extended version was released as a single.
And now, after an enforced Covid shaped break, we managed to get together again, down at Rockfold Studio in Surrey, to bring you our version of John Lee Hooker's 'Dimples'.
We made it as live as possible with my '63 Danelectro through a Bugera valve amp and Bill's acoustic harp and vocal. I like it a lot. John Lee looks down from his picture on the wall and I'm sure he approves. Enjoy the music.
'Dimples' by John Lee Hooker. Licensed through Easy Song.
Recorded at Rockfold Studio, Surrey, August 2023. Released as Mick Clarke and Bill Thorndycraft 22 September. Also released as Clarke Thorndycraft.
Background artwork by Bob Dylan.
