Mick writes:

Here's a 6 track compilation EP of recent releases featuring 2 originals and 4 blues and rock classics.

Blue Shadows
Lowell Fulson's No. 1 R&B hit from the 50s. A great song. I first heard it on BB KIng's 'Jungle' album.. I remember carrying it home from Dobell's Record Shop on Charing Cross Road on the bus.

Preachin' to the Choir
An original boogie released as a single in July - seems popular.

I Can't Stop Loving You
And Don Gibson's country classic - a huge pop / soul hit for Ray Charles. What can you say? Here's my blues rock version.

Freight Train
Elizabeth Cotten wrote this when she was 12 years old. Still sounds good to me.

City Boy
Well I was born a City Boy in the backstreets of 1950s Wimbledon.. so although I now breathe the sweet air of Fabulous Rockfold the fumes of Sarf London still run through my veins.

Stupid Cupid
Neil Sedaka wrote this with lyricist Howard Greenfield. A rocking pop hit for Connie Francis - still a great song in my opinion.

A little boogie for the Autumn.. more to come very soon. keep rockin!

Mick Clarke - City Boy' Blue Shadows fallin', since my baby went away
Blue Shadows fallin', since my baby went away
You know the blues is my companion, every night and every day

The blues walked in this morning, yeah when she said goodbye
The blues walked in this morning, yeah when she said goodbye
I wish I could change her mind, but I know it's no use for me to try

Well talk to me baby, if it's just by the telephone
Won't you please talk to me baby, if it's just by the telephone
Let me tell you how I miss you baby and how it feels to be alone

Say, if you got a good woman, man, you better take my advice
You better - treat her well and keep her home at any price
well... Blue shadows fallin', since my baby went away
You know the blues is my companion, every night and every day

Now lovin you darlin's like leanin' on an open door
talk to me baby tell me just what love is for
you make it so easy mm I couldn't ask for more

tell me that you love me tell me I'm yours always
tell me 'bout the story that live til the end of days
don't worry 'bout that baby well you preachin' to the choir
yeah you preachin' to the choir
yeah

yeah I know trouble when I see it comin' down the road
and trouble won't stop to help you with your load
but one thing I know don't change when you get old
preachin' to the choir
preachin' to the choir
preachin' to the choir

I can't stop loving you
I've made up my mind
To live in memory of the lonesome kind
I can't stop wanting you
It's useless to say
So I'll just live my life in dreams of yesterday

Those happy hours that we once knew
Tho' long ago, they still make me blue
They say that time heals a broken heart
But time stood still since we've been apart

I can't stop loving you
I've made up my mind
To live in memory of the lonesome kind
I can't stop wanting you
It's useless to say
So I'll just live my life in dreams of yesterday

Those happy hours that we once knew
Tho' long ago, they still make me blue
They say that time heals a broken heart
But time stood still since we've been apart

I can't stop loving you
I've made up my mind
To live in memory of the lonesome kind
I can't stop wanting you
It's useless to say
So I'll just live my life in dreams of yesterday

Freight train, freight train, run so fast
Freight train, freight train, run so fast
Please don't tell what train I'm on
They won't know what route I'm gone

When I'm dead and in my grave
No more good times here I crave
Place the stones at my head and feet
And tell them all I've gone to sleep

When I die, oh bury me deep
Down at the end of old Chestnut Street
So I can hear old Number Nine
As she comes rolling by

When I die, oh bury me deep
Down at the end of old Chestnut Street
So I can hear old Number Nine
As she comes rolling by

Freight train, freight train, run so fast
Freight train, freight train, run so fast
Please don't tell what train I'm on
They won't know what route I'm gone

Well I live in the country but in my heart I'm just a city boy
well I live in the country but in my heart I'm just a city boy
take me down to the river got that dirty water blues cos
I'm a city boy

well I ain't no gentry I'm just reg'lar folk
and I'm leavin' this mornin' headin'
up to the smoke
yeah I'm a city boy
well I can get around when I'm back in town
I'm a city boy

bright lights of soho back where I belong
may not do right but baby I can't do wrong
I'm a city boy
take me down to the river got that dirty water blues cos
yeah I'm down in the alley got that smokin' blues
I'm a city boy

Stupid Cupid you're a real mean guy
I'd like to clip your wings so you can't fly
I'm in love and it's a crying shame
And I know that you're the one to blame
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me

I can't do my homework and I can't think straight
I meet her every morning 'bout half past eight
I'm acting like a lovesick fool
You've even got me carrying your books to school
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me

You mixed me up right from the very start
now go play Robin Hood with someone else's heart

You got me jumping like a crazy clown
And I don't feature what you're putting down
But since I kissed her loving lips of wine
The thing that bothers me is that I like it fine
Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me

Hey hey, set me free
Stupid Cupid stop picking on me
